Student commitment summary

This is a supervised clinical course with strict attendance, prerequisite, safety, and assessment requirements. The summary below is drawn from the course documents; the Statement of Policy and Procedure governs.

Attendance. All 72 hours are required for a certificate of completion. Arriving more than 15 minutes late to a session counts as absent for that block. Make-up is available only for the documented emergencies defined in the policy, is limited, and is not guaranteed; otherwise the whole course must be retaken.

Daily schedule. Sessions run 8:00 am to 6:15 pm and may run up to one hour later. Plan travel and other commitments around that. Registration on the first day is at 7:15 am.

These prerequisites are set by the New Mexico Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 16.2.18.10 NMAC. They are Board requirements, not BMMAI policy, and BMMAI has no authority to waive, reduce or substitute any of them. Applicants are responsible for confirming that they meet them. The Board decides whether a graduate is certified and may refuse an applicant who does not meet its requirements.

Prerequisites. Current New Mexico DOM licensure in good standing; at least 3 college credit hours (30 to 45 contact hours) in pharmacology from an accredited institution, a Board-approved online course, or a pharmacology final examination at an accredited institution; and a 4-hour American Heart Association CPR or BLS course.

CPR/BLS proof must include a current card valid through July 31, 2027, as 16.2.18.10(D) NMAC requires.

Clinical participation. Students give injections to one another and receive them, under faculty supervision. Giving and receiving injections under supervision is a required part of the course; a student who does not participate cannot complete it. Before the clinical laboratories begin, you sign a release form confirming you accept those risks and have disclosed any medical condition that makes it unsafe for you to receive injections. A student allergic to an authorized substance may be excused while it is in use and observe instead; observation of all clinical hours remains required.

Assessment. A proctored written examination and practical examination circuits on the final day. The passing grade is 70 percent on each, independently. A single remediation and retake may be offered at the Course Director’s discretion; a retake that cannot be done on the day costs $175.

Conduct. No electronic devices during instruction and no recording at any time. The course is fragrance-free. Scrubs or lab coat and closed-toe shoes in clinic.

Costs and withdrawal. The deposit is $750 plus $61.41 New Mexico gross receipts tax ($811.41 total) and is nonrefundable. Withdrawal with at least 30 days’ written notice by certified mail refunds tuition paid, excluding the deposit. No refund with less notice or after instruction begins. If the course is cancelled for insufficient enrollment, you may choose a full refund, including the deposit, or, if BMMAI offers a future course, transfer to it. If BMMAI cannot establish an applicant’s required prerequisite eligibility during its initial prerequisite-document review, BMMAI will refund amounts paid other than the nonrefundable deposit of $750.00 plus $61.41 New Mexico gross receipts tax ($811.41 total). Any refund includes the gross receipts tax paid on the refunded amount. After BMMAI confirms eligibility, a subsequent lapse of a required license or CPR/BLS credential is governed by the ordinary withdrawal and refund provisions. This does not alter full-refund rights if BMMAI cancels or reschedules the course.

Payment does not waive the prerequisites or your obligation to submit proof. Required prerequisite documentation must be submitted to BMMAI by January 5, 2027. Documentation is reviewed before collection of the tuition balance. No one participates without satisfactory prerequisite documentation.

Frequently asked questions

When is my place reserved?

An available place is held during checkout or pending ACH/check payment under the stated deadlines. Successful payment or bank clearance confirms a reservation, subject to prerequisite documentation.

What do I pay now?

Deposit: $811.41 ($750.00 deposit plus $61.41 New Mexico gross receipts tax), applied to tuition. Balance: $5,030.72 ($4,650.00 tuition plus $380.72 New Mexico gross receipts tax), due January 19, 2027. Cards and supported wallets: 30 minutes to complete checkout. ACH: your place is held while processing. Checks: received within ten calendar days, with reservation confirmed after bank clearance.

What happens if the course fills?

If the course is full, you will join a chronological waitlist. If a place opens, the first person on the waitlist is notified by email and must initiate deposit payment within 48 hours.

I am licensed outside New Mexico. Can I take this course?

Current New Mexico DOM licensure is a prerequisite for this course. BMMAI’s 48-hour national course is open to practitioners in other states.

What if I need an accommodation, or have a concern about receiving injections?

Requests for accommodation must be made in writing with supporting documentation by February 3, 2027. Please do not put medical details in the website form; tick the box asking for a private conversation and we will contact you.

What does the second certificate of completion document?

The certificate of completion for the national course, and the second certificate issued with the New Mexico course, serve one purpose only: to document completion of the education NCBAHM requires before a candidate may apply to take its Acupuncture Injection Therapy Certificate of Qualification examination. The certificate is not a certification, licence or credential. It does not authorize the holder to perform injection therapy in any state, and it does not guarantee admission to or success in the NCBAHM examination. NCBAHM alone decides eligibility, and state boards alone decide authority to practise.

How long must my CPR/BLS card remain valid?

You must provide a current card valid through July 31, 2027, as 16.2.18.10(D) NMAC requires. Submit prerequisite proof, including a renewed card if needed, by January 5, 2027.

What happens if I pay but cannot establish prerequisite eligibility?
