Beginner’s Mind Medical Arts Institute has assembled an exceptional faculty for this course: seven New Mexico-licensed Doctors of Oriental Medicine and two New Mexico-licensed pharmacists whose collective experience spans clinical practice, professional regulation, national certification, emergency medicine, academic leadership, and pharmacy.
As of September 2026, the seven Doctors of Oriental Medicine together bring more than 200 years of licensed practice in New Mexico. More than 106 of those years represent time during which faculty members held New Mexico Board certification to do what this course teaches, at the Basic Injection Therapy level or above.
New Mexico Injection Therapy Certification
New Mexico recognizes two injection-therapy certification categories for Doctors of Oriental Medicine: Basic Injection Therapy and Injection Therapy. Injection Therapy is the higher of the two categories, although its official title does not include the word “Advanced.”
All seven Doctors of Oriental Medicine on the faculty hold current New Mexico Board certification in one of these categories. Five hold certification in Basic Injection Therapy. Two hold certification in Injection Therapy and are also certified in Intravenous Therapy and Hormone Therapy.
Emergency Medicine and Public Health
The faculty includes two licensed emergency medical professionals—one EMT-Intermediate/Advanced and one Paramedic—whose backgrounds span emergency medical services, public-health emergency management, disaster response, crisis intervention, and prehospital care.
Faculty members hold or have previously held Instructor certification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Their experience also includes teaching through a university EMS academy, service with the National Disaster Medical System and the New Mexico Serves Medical Reserve Corps Integrative Medicine Unit, and work as a Clean Needle Technique Examiner.
Academic and Clinical Leadership
Faculty members have served at Southwest Acupuncture College as Associate and Assistant Professors, Clinical Supervisors, and Instructors. Their responsibilities included teaching pharmacology, managing clinical rotations, and supervising student interns.
The faculty also includes a former Academic Dean of the college’s Albuquerque campus and a former university Department Chair in Wellness and Movement Sciences. These roles bring direct experience in classroom teaching, clinical education, curriculum development, and academic administration.
Faculty experience also includes hospital medical staff appointments, service on hospital credentialing and complementary-medicine committees, and the development of clinical pathways and integrative-care programs.
State and National Leadership
New Mexico leadership and service. Faculty members have served on the New Mexico Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, including three who served as Board Chair. They have also held leadership positions in New Mexico professional associations and helped develop the state’s Expanded Practice framework. The faculty’s experience developing and teaching New Mexico Board-approved courses in Injection Therapy, Intravenous Therapy, and Hormone Therapy extends back to 1988.
National leadership and certification. The faculty includes a former Chair of the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM). Two faculty members served on the NCBAHM Task Force for Acupuncture Injection Therapy, helping to develop national certification standards and the examination framework. Two also hold the NCBAHM Certificate of Qualification in Acupuncture Injection Therapy.
This is an uncommon concentration of experience in the disciplines most important to Basic Injection Therapy. BMMAI’s faculty brings together professionals who have helped shape New Mexico’s Expanded Practice rules, develop national certification standards, educate and supervise clinicians, respond to medical emergencies, and promote the safe use of injectable substances. The course is built on that collective record.
